What is an ADU?

Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) - Interior Small Home

Is it Just a Small Home?

It's a Lot More than that.

An accessory dwelling unit (ADU) is a secondary unit or home added to a property with an existing residence with all the necessities for living. ADUs drastically differ from any other backyard structure, such as a detached garage, shed, or work station.

ADUs are installed on a permanent foundation and are legally recognized as a residential structure for living. Meaning, they’re just like your home, they increase property value and they can be rented out (separate from the main residence or vice versa.)

California Homeowners Rejoice!

The first step to qualifying for an ADU is to be a homeowner.

Typically, all California homeowners are allowed to have an ADU on their property, however depending on your property you may have some prerequisites. ADUs are for those trying to house a loved one, looking for additional monthly income or wanting additional living space as a workspace or studio.

NOTE: We deliver homes to lots, land and more as the only residence on the property, however it is no longer called an ADU, and we can no longer promise the same benefits that ADUs have.

An ADU Golden Era Is Upon Us.

In the midst of a housing crisis with California housing prices soaring, the state seeks an affordable solution: accessory dwelling units. Allowing homeowners to create more viable housing in an area they know already, their backyard.

California continues to create more opportunities with ADUs by implementing more laws or unbinding previous ones to allow more people to utilize ADUs as an effective option.
