About the role

Every ADU and modular home we build starts as a set of drawings, and yours will be the ones our factory, our permit techs, and our clients all build from.

This is an in-person role at our Salinas factory, typically 20 to 30 hours a week depending on our current workload. Some weeks may run longer when deadlines need it, and you're paid hourly for every hour worked.

Framework First is a family-owned prefab and modular ADU and home builder in Salinas, CA. About 97% of every home is built off-site in our own factory, then crane-delivered and set on the client's property. We handle permits, foundation, finishes, and inspections so the client never has to juggle contractors themselves.

As our Architectural Drafter, you'll produce and revise the floor plans, elevations, site plans, and construction detail sheets that turn a client's ADU or home into a buildable, permittable project. You'll work in CAD to translate design intent and field measurements into drawings that are accurate, code-compliant, and ready for jurisdiction review, and when a plan-check correction comes back, you'll be the one who turns it around fast.

As we grow our in-house design and permitting team, there's real room to take on more of the plan set from concept through final approval and grow with us.

What you'll do

  • ·Produce and revise floor plans, elevations, site plans, and construction detail sheets for ADU and modular home projects
  • ·Turn design concepts and field measurements into accurate, construction-ready CAD drawings
  • ·Support permit submissions and feasibility studies with drawings that are accurate the first time
  • ·Check every plan set against jurisdiction-specific building code and zoning requirements before it goes out the door
  • ·Partner daily with our Construction Permit Coordinator and project managers to keep drawings aligned with what's actually being built
  • ·Revise plan sets quickly when a plan-check correction comes back, so permits keep moving instead of stalling a project

Who you are

  • ·Experienced with CAD or drafting software (AutoCAD, Revit, Chief Architect, or similar) and comfortable producing construction-ready sheets, not just concept sketches
  • ·Familiar with California residential building code and zoning requirements, or a fast learner who picks up jurisdiction-specific quirks quickly
  • ·Detail-obsessed: a missed dimension or wrong setback can cost a project weeks
  • ·Organized enough to juggle multiple plan sets and correction cycles at once without losing track of what's due where
  • ·Comfortable working as part of a team alongside a permit coordinator and project managers, not off in a silo

Job specifics

  • ·Location: Salinas, CA (1610 Moffett Street, our factory and HQ)
  • ·Schedule: 20–30 hrs/week, Mon-Fri, based on current workload. In-person at our Salinas factory (not remote).
  • ·Pay: $35–$40/hr + Overtime, depending on experience

What happens next

We read every application. If your experience looks like a fit, we reach out to schedule a short virtual interview, a real conversation, not a form.

No videos to record and no hoops to jump through. If that goes well, the next step is an in-person conversation with our leadership team at our Salinas factory.
